How to Be Happy and Practice Dentistry

It took a lot of effort to become a dentist. Years of studying, and forgoing some fun. Then, your dream of becoming a dentist, became your reality.

Now, when you are able to pay off the last bit of debt, and make your monthly obligations with ease, it will be time to be happy. At least that’s what you tell yourself.

What if there was a way to BE happy right now in this moment, even if you are still in debt, and the bills are mounting? I know, I don’t understand your unique situation.

What if I did understand? What if, what you are going through, is really not that unique?

When I kept delaying doing the things that I wanted to, until I felt better, I in essence was delaying being happy, just where I was.

How did I change my situation?

I didn’t.

I changed the way I thought.

Instead of waiting to feel better (believe me, having your head explode with a cerebral hemorrhage and the nerve endings getting “stuck”in the on position, wasn’t fun) I made a decision to behave in a way, a healthy person behaved. I made plans on my calendar – after 13 years of not knowing how I might feel – this was difficult. I kept 2015-09-20 09.29.38asking myself – what if – – – I knew I was going to feel better, would I do this?

The answer was always YES!!!

How we do anything is how we do everything. – Tweet that

So, back to you –

  • If you were happy, would you enjoy all aspects of your work? (Remember the answer is always YES!)

  • Would you have a different attitude about making debt payments – if you were happy? (YES!)

  • Would you make different choices about your free time? (YES?)

You get the idea. First choose, make a decision of what you want – being happy (joyous, excited, content) then behave in a way that is consistent with that way of being.

Sometimes, you’ll have to re-MIND yourself of your decision.

It took some time for my “Being healthy” to stick. The more I practiced this, the more it became my reality. This will work for you too. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to assist you on your journey.
